It was a strange encounter that was not on our itinerary. We'd gone there to walk some of the Malerweg -- a picturesque stretch that runs 110km which has inspired painter for years. Lohmen is pretty remote -- closer to Wehlen than Dresden, but also on the Elbe. There are signs directing people to the Wagner monument, but even that doesn't really prepare you for it. My GF and I happened upon it on at the top of hour, and there are speakers up in the trees that blare a snippet from some Wagner piece to round out the experience. I reckon it's a must-see for Wagner freaks. Put it on your bucket list and make sure your handlers, should you have them, give you ample time to soak it up and reflect.
